Faults & Fixes
Faults & Fixes is the on-course troubleshooting layer. Final Boss Method teaches target delivery geometry; The Practice Plan installs it. This section maps symptom → mechanical root → tactical correction so fixes stay external and constraint-driven—not another stack of swing thoughts under pressure.
Installing a new pillar? Stay in the relevant swing-category blueprint (Full Swing, Short Game, or Putting). Live ball flight costing strokes? Match the symptom below, open the tactical page, calibrate on the range after the round—not mid-round.
When a fault appears on course, run Recovery & Reset Protocol on the next shot — one external rule only. Open the linked lesson and Practice Plan drill after the round.
Symptom → Fault Routing
| What you see | Likely movement fault | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Weak slice / high spin fade | Over-the-top slice | Steep transition, shoulder plane throw |
| Push slice / straight block right | Wrist Mechanics | Cupped lead wrist or open face — path may be fine |
| Pull hook (starts left, curves more left) | Stuck block/hook | Closed face + stall, or flip from trapped arms |
| Block right + hook left (two-way) | Stuck block/hook | Lead hip never cleared; arms stall or flip |
| Fat / chunk (turf before ball) | Fat/chunk | Low-point behind ball; hub dip or radius collapse |
| Thin / top (ball first, no turf) | Fat/chunk + Early extension | Often paired — hub lifts or low point moves back |
| Blocks / timing hooks from depth loss | Early extension | Pelvis thrusts toward ball; defensive shallowing |
| Steep OTT after high hands | Flying elbow | Fake turn → often precedes OTT |
| Wedge dig / chunk around green | Faults by Swing Category — Short Game | Tight-Lie Chip; hinge-and-hold |
| Bump runs through / checks on firm green | Bump-and-Run | Landing zone math; club or green misread |
| Bunker left in sand / bladed explosion | Faults by Swing Category — Short Game | Bunker Shots — sand displacement |
| Putt misses left/right consistently | Faults by Swing Category — Putting | Start line = face problem first |
| Lag putt long / blow past hole | Faults by Swing Category — Putting | Lag Putting & Leave Zones |
| Short putt lip-outs / deceleration | Faults by Swing Category — Putting | Short Putts & Make Zone |
When the pattern is unclear, return to Fundamentals or the relevant swing-category blueprint in The Final Boss Method.
Fault Relationships (Full Swing)
Full-swing faults share roots — misdiagnosis is common:
Flying Elbow (fake turn)
↓
Over-the-Top Slice (steep throw)
↓
Early Extension (stand up to survive steep strike)
↓
Stuck Block/Hook OR Fat/Chunk (arms trap; low point shifts)
- Flying elbow → disconnects arms → steep OTT
- OTT → steep collision threat → early extension
- Early extension → arms trap → stuck or chunk
Fix the earliest fault in the chain when multiple appear — not the last symptom.
Which Drill When (By Fault)
| Fault | Primary drill | Then add | Method pillar |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early extension | Wall Walk | Pump Drill | GRF, Elbow Plane |
| Over-the-top slice | Pump Drill | Plane Station | Elbow Plane |
| Fat/chunk | Forehead Post & Tailbone Glide | Step-Up Drill | Fundamentals — low point |
| Stuck block/hook | Wall Walk | Exit Gate, Split-Grip | J-Curve |
| Flying elbow | Towel connection (on fault page) | Sternum Tracker, Pump Drill | The Coil |
| Push slice / open face | Wrist Hinge Trainer | Split-Grip Station | Wrist Mechanics |
| Wedge dig (short game) | Trail-Hand Chip Protocol | Tee under leading edge · Tight-Lie Chip | Geometry of Bounce |
| Bump rollout miss | Bump-and-Run landing-spot block | One-club matrix on firm green | Shot Selection |
| Putting start-line miss | Start-Line Gate Protocol | Forehead Post (head still) | Face Angle vs. Path |
| Lag / speed control | Speed Programming Levels | Lag Putting leave zone | Planar Pendulum |

Tactical Corrections (Full Swing)
| Fault | What you will recalibrate |
|---|---|
| Curing Early Extension | Pelvic depth, Y-axis stability, and transition sequencing |
| The Over-the-Top Slice | Shallowing, elbow plane, and spiral-based delivery |
| Eliminating the Fat/Chunk | Low-point control and hub stability |
| Fixing the Stuck Block/Hook | Lower-body clearance and kinematic sequence |
| The Flying Elbow Cure | Width, trail-arm structure, and shallowing without lift |
Short Game and Putting: Faults by Swing Category
Recommended Path
- Match one symptom from the routing table — Short Game / Putting symptoms → Faults by Swing Category first.
- Open the tactical page; note Movement Patterns (drill + station).
- Run Constraint-Led Practice at 10% speed until 8/10 constraint clears.
- Graduate via Transfer Protocol — random mode + full Pre-Shot Loop.
- On course: External focus + Recovery & Reset after mishits.
